    Magna Carta
    A charter of rights agreed to by King John of England. These rights protected the rights of the people and limited the power of the monarchy.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    It was the first governing document of Plymouth colony. It was written by the adult males and it was a set of rules for self-governance.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
    It was an act that the Parliament of England passed. This bill created a separation of power, limited the monarchy´s power, and gave more rights to the citizens.
  • Cato´s Letters

    Cato´s Letters
    A series of essays written by "Elder Cato" and "Young Cato" that condemned corruption and lack of morality in the British government system. These provided inspiration for the American revolution.
  • French and Indian War

      French and Indian War
    1754-1763 France and it´s Native American allies fought against England and it´s Native American colonies. This was to see who would become the main power in the New World. It ended with England winning and the creation of the Treaty of Paris.
  • Mercantilism

    The theory that a country should export more goods than it imports. England did this will the colonies and it prompted the revolution.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    An act of parliament on the colonies that forced them to pay a tax on every piece of paper they used. This tax was to help pay for the French and Indian War.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    The declaratory act was made by parliament to reaffirm that England had the right to govern the colonies. It said that England had the same power in the colonies as in England.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    A series of acts passed on the colonies from parliament from 1767 to 1768. These took way some freedoms of colonists and made the colonist pay lots of taxes.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    A several people in a mob were shot and killed by British soldiers. This event was heavily publicized by the Patriots.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    The tea act allowed the British East Indian Company to directly export tea to the colonies and not to take it to England first. This gave the company a monopoly on the tea market in the colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The Sons of Liberty dumped tea into the Boston harbor because of the Tea Acts. This lead to the intolerable acts as punishment.
  • Intolerable Act/Coercive Act

    Intolerable Act/Coercive Act
    These were acts established to punish the rebelling colonists for the Boston Tea party and resistance to taxation. These limited the colonist's freedoms even more.
  • First Continental Congress

      First Continental Congress
    A meeting of 12 delegates from the 13 colonies in reaction to the Coercive Acts. It took place in Philadelphia from September 5, 1774 to October 22, 1774.

     Lexington & Concord
    The first military battles of the American Revolutionary War. They were fought in the Providence of Massachusetts.

    Second Continental Congress
    A meeting of American delegates that became the governing body of the US from 1775 to 1781. It created armys and made battle plans.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
    A pamphlet that was written by Thomas Paine to persuade people in the Colonies to fight for independence. This influenced many commoners to join the fight against Britain.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
    The official act of the colonies declaring independence from Britain. It tells why they wanted independence and presents some of the core values of the United States. (Nic Cage Stole it)
