Forts
The U. S. army set up forts on the Rio Grande (the unnoficial border), to provoke the Mexican Army. Mexican settlements on the U. S. side of the Rio Grande had to flee. Col. Ethan Allen Hitchcock was one of the men sent by General Taylor to set up the forts. His opinion was that they should nt provoke the Mexicans, but he would follow orders. -

The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo was signed and Mexico Surrendered. The United states took California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, parts of Wyoming and parts of Colorado. The United States payed Mexico 15,000,000 to keep up appearances. -
