The Mexican Cession
In February 1848, the U.S. and Mexico signed the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. The Mexican Cession was a purchase from Mexico following a military victory. $15 million in addition to $3.25 million in assumed claims. The Mexican Cession was 529,000 sq. miles. There was a plethora of minerals, so many Low-Income families came here to "Strike it Rich." -
The Gadsden Purchase
