Progresses from simple imitation to imaginative play.
Can remember familiar objects without seeing them.
Can obtain familiar objects from different room when asked.
Places circles, triangles, and squares in form board. -
22-24 Months
Physical:
Walks with more coordination and assurance.
Walks sideways and backwards with ease.
Bounces and sways in simple dancing movements.
Lacks ability to start efficiently or stop quickly while running.
Cognitive:
Becomes interested in the outcome of activities rather than just the activities themselves.
Is curious about objects in environment; feels, squeezes, pulls and pushes objects.
Follows simple directions.
Is able to match familiar objects. -
24-30 Months
Physical:
Improves motor skills as torso lengthens and baby fat begins to disappear.
Climbs on jungle gym with fair amount of ease.
Plays on swings, ladders, and other playground equipment.
Kicks ball forward.
Cognitive:
Becomes increasingly interested in children's TV shows.
Can follow two-step commands.
Solves problems by imitating past actions.
Distinguishes between before and after. -
30-36 Months
Physical:
Likes to be in constant motion, running or walking sideways or backward.
Enjoys games involving running.
Climbs quickly on jungle gym to reach the top.
Cognitive:
Uses symbolic representation in make-believe play.
Recognizes self in photographs.
Identifies familiar objects by touch.
Can stack rings in the correct order.
