Chapter 4 - Newborn - The Social World
Social Referencing: when infants and young children look to caregivers or trusted adults for emotional cues to help them interpret uncertain situations and guide their own behavior I remeber that I would always look to my father on how to react to an situation, whether I should be grateful, happy, angry, etc.

Animism - The belief that natural objects are alive and non-human objects like a teddy bear has the same human qualities like talking or walking that the child has as well. When I was a child I believed that my stuffed curious george was real and when I lost him I thought he had died and felt sad over his "death."

Emotional Regulation: Critical skill during this age to be learned and is how children deal and respond to the emotions they feel. Chapter 7 - Middle Childhood Age 6-11 - Cooncrete Thought
Concrete Operational Thought: Kids develop logical thinking, like conservation which is where they understand that if a liquid's container changes the amount is still the same, but struggle with abstract thinking. I remeber I was able to apply conservation to solids, liquids, and even gases at this age, but I struggle with abstract thinking or the understanding of what I cannot see like love, etc.

Chapter 8 - Middle Childhod and Industry vs. Inferiority
Industry vs. Inferiority: When children develop a sense of confidence and self-love through mastering skills and achieving goals, but can also cause deep feelings of inferiority if unsuccesful. I remeber I would feel very proud of myself if I was able to color or do a task by myself at this age but if I was yelled at for messing up then I would feel extremely sad and guilty.
  • Chapter 9 -Adolescence

    Chapter 9 -Adolescence
Puberty: the biological but not social transition to adulthood, marked by hormonal changes that can lead to changes in one's body like voice changes. I remeber almost everyday in the 4th quarter of 7th grade I would have voice cracks and in the summer going into 8th grade I noticed lots of hair growth on my arms and legs as well.
  • Chapter 10 - Adolescence - The Social World

Chapter 10 - Adolescence - The Social World
Identity: Each young person strives to find who they are often indirectly asking themselves the question, "Who am I?" I remeber I really struggled with this throughout middleschool and freshmen year, but through strengthening my relationships with God, my family, and finding the brotherhood that is the football team, I found that I feel like myself the most when I am serving others.
