    Thomas Hobbes believed in society having a strong government to stay orderly.
    John Locke believed in democracy, rather then the government having power.
    Baron de Montesquieu believed in the government having checks and balances, to divide power.
    Voltaire believed in people having individual freedoms, such as religion.
    Jean-Jacque Rousseau believed that everybody was good, and that society corrupted them.
    Mary Wollstonecraft believed that women and other minorities should have more freedom.
  • The Great Fear

    The Great Fear
    As I was saying, the lower class broke into a tennis court, demanding to change the constitution. This then led to the lower class storming the Bastille, to look for weapons. They started killing many members of the second estate, and this chaos continued throughout the summer, and then came to be known as "The Great Fear." All of this rebellion caused for the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of Citizen to be published.

    The French Revolution was a time of uprising and chaos for France. Its events would come to change the country forever. The people in France, mainly the poor, had been taxed heavily, and couldn't afford food. So, the three estates met, and the first estate was for religious leaders, second estate was for nobility, and the third estate was everyone else. The problem with this, is that the poor still didnt get much of a say, because they would get outvoted.

    France was using St. Domingue, (now Haiti) as a way to make money, because of all the sugar cane on the island. People were upset, however, because they were using slaves. So then, Toussaint L'ouverture, wanted to rebel against France to outlaw slavery. France saw this coming, and they did that before any bloodshed could start. L'ourveture took control of the island,(Hispaniola) but he was a corrupt leader. But then Jean-Jacque Desailline, put L'ouverture in prison, and made Haiti independent.

    There was a big independence movement in Latin and South America, first started by Agustin de Iturdibe making Mexico independent from Spain, because of political disagreements. Then, other Latin American nations followed. While in exile, the leader of Venezuela (Simon Bolivar) came up with a plan to beat the Spanish. He boldy attacked them over the Andes, and won, making the nation of Gran Colombia. While going South, he met with Jose de San Martin, and they helped each other with wars.
