    Week 3-4

    The baby is having conception and the zygote turns into blastocyst and travels down the fallopian tubes. Blastocyst implants in uterus lining during week 4 and becomes an embryo.

    Week 5-6

    The neural tube closes and the brain and spinal cord will close. The baby's heart, organs, and bones form. The brain begins development. Baby is 1/6 inch long.

    The brain and face shape begin growing on the baby. The lungs begin to form. Fingers and toes start to form and the ears of the baby begin to develop. The baby is about 1/2 inch long
  • Week 10

    All of the baby's body parts are present. Eyes, ears, arms, and legs are identifiable. The baby's head is half the size of the baby. The baby is 1 1/4 inch long.

    The baby's head is about half the length of the baby. The genitals develop. The baby's teeth buds form. Baby is about 2 inches in length and weighs about 1/3 ounces

    The baby's face has a more defined profile. Intestines are in the abdomen. The fingernails are growing. The baby is about 2 1/2 inches in length and weighs about an ounce

    The baby's sex will become apparent. Baby can swallow and make urine. The baby is about 3 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 1 1/2 ounces

    Baby is moving but mom cannot feel it. The baby is about 4 1/2 inches in length

    Baby begins to hear. Digestive system becomes active. Vernix caseosa covers the baby's body.

    All the baby's organs and structures formed. Breathing movements occur but are underdeveloped. The baby is covered in lanugo and may begin to suck thumb. The baby is about 6 1/3 inches in length and weighs about 11 ounces.

    Baby has nails, fingerprints, eyebrows, lashes, and possibly some hair. The baby is more active and at it's lowest limit of viability (survival outside the mother). Baby is about 7 1/2 inches in length and weighs about 1 pound

    Baby is having lung development. On a regular sleep and wake patterns. The skin is wrinkly, transculent and pinkish red. Baby is about 8 inches in length and weighs about 1 1/3 pounds.

    Baby's eyes begin to partially open and close. The central nervous system directs breathing. Lungs are capable of breathing air. Baby begins to kick and stretch.

    The baby has finished most of the major development. Rapid weight gain begins. The lanugo starts to fall off. Baby is aobut 11 inches in length and weighs about 3 3/4 pounds.

    Baby continues to grow nails. He/she develops breathing motion and responds to light. Skin is smooth and pink. Baby is about 12 inches in length and weighs about 4 1/2 pounds.

    The baby takes up most of the amino sac. The head starts to turn down to prepare for labor. Baby is about 13 1/3 inches in length and weighs about 6 pounds. The baby will continue to gain 1/2 pound every week until born.

    The baby's brain, lungs, and liver are still developing. Brain will double in size between week 35-39. At week 39, baby is considered full term. Weight gain helps with temperature control once born.
