Fertilization takes place, This is the time when the baby is concieved. -

Week 2
The egg is now in the nutrient rich lining of the uterus and the cells are rapidly multiplying. -

Week 4
Right now the baby is the size of a poppy seed. The two layers in the picture will form the baby's organs and body parts. The bubble is the developing yoke sak. -
Week 5
The circulatory system will start to develop and the baby's heart will start to beat. -
Week 6
You can tell where the baby's nose, mouth and ears will take shape and the intestines and lungs are beginning to develop. -
Week 7
The baby has doubled the size it was in week 6 and the hands and feet are starting to develop. -
Week 8
The baby has now begun moving but the mother will not feel it until much later. Nerve cells are branching out throughout the body. -
Week 9
The baby's physiology is in place but even though the baby weighs a fraction of an ounce, he/she is about to start gaining a lot of weight. -
Week 10
The skin is still translucent but the nails on the baby's fingers are starting to develop. -
Week 11
The baby is almost fully formed. She/he is able to move and stretch and even hiccup as the baby's diaphram develops. -
Week 12
This week the baby's reflexes kick in. Their fingers will soon open and close, toes will curl, and the baby's mouth will make sucking movements. -
Week 13
The baby now has their very own fingerprints. The veins and organs are clearly visible through the skin. If it's a girl, she now has 2 million eggs in her ovaries. -

Second Trimester

Week 14
The baby's brain impulses have begun to fire, and the baby is now using their facial muscles. The kidneys are up and running, and if you get an ultrasound, you may see them sucking their thumb. -
Week 15
The baby's eyelids are still fused shut, but the baby can sense light. The baby is the size of an apple. -
Week 16
Legs are becoming more developed and the pattern on the baby's scalp has begun. The baby's head is much more upright. -
Week 17
The baby can now move their joints and the skeleton is hardening to bone. -
Week 18
The baby can now flex their arms and legs, and it can be felt by the mother. -
Week 19
The baby's senses are developing and the baby can now hear you talk. -
Week 20
The baby can swollow now and their digestive system is producing what will be the baby's first poop. -
Week 21
The baby will now start to kick at the amniotic sac walls. -
Week 22
Features such as lips and eyebrows are more distinct. The baby's eyes will soon open. -
Week 23
The baby is great at hearing and the baby recongnizes certain voices. -
Week 24
The baby has a long and lean figure but that will change in the upcomming weeks. -
Week 25
The baby's wrinkled skin is starting to fill out with baby fat and the hair is comming in nicely. -
Week 26
The baby is now inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid to prepare the lungs for breathing air at birth. -
Week 27
The baby now sleeps and wakes on a regular schedual and the lungs are fully formed. -

Third Trimester

Week 28
The baby's eyelashes have grown and the baby's eyes are developing and can sense light from outside the mothers tummy. -
Week 29
The head is growing to make room for the developing brain and the muscles and lungs are preparing for birth. -
Week 30
The amount of amniotic fluid is now a pint and a half, although there will be less when the baby continues to grow. -
Week 31
The baby can now turn his/her head and a layer of fat is accumulating under the skin. -
Week 32
Both the mother and baby are gaining weight quickly. -
Week 33
The bones in the baby's skull are not fused yet because of how the baby will have to leave the womb. They will not be fused until adulthood. -
Week 34
The baby's centeral nervous system is maturing as are the lungs. -
Week 35
The baby's kidneys are fully developed and the liver can process some waste products. -
Week 36
The waxy substance that protects the baby's skin throughout pregnancy is fading away as the baby prepares for birth. -
Week 37
The lungs and brain are fully maturing as the baby looks more and more like a newborn. -
Week 38
The baby's eye color is developing. -
Week 39
The baby is regulating their body teperature for the outside world. -
Week 40
Preparing for birth. -
Week 41
The baby has now passed the due date which means more than likely the mother will have to be induced.
