This was a land deal between the U.S. and France for about 827,000 acres of land for $15 million. This was a huge factor in the expansion of the U.S. to the west. -
Merriweather, Lewis and Clark explore Louisiana Purchase
Congress funded this exploration of the western territory. The expedition went from the Mississippi to the Pacific Ocean. This majorly impacted the movement of the U.S. population westward. -
Act Prohibiting the Importation of Slaves
This was a United Sates federal law that did not allow any new slaves to be imported to the U.S. The importance is that I believe it was the first of many steps to abolish slavery in the U.S. -

This was a war fought between the U.S. and the United Kingdom. The war was caused by many things, one including the British trying to restrict U.S. trade. The importance of this war is that is boosted patriotism in many Americans and national confidence. -

James W. Marshall was the first person to discover gold in California. The importance of this event is that is cause the Gold Rush, which led approximately 300,000 people to California. -

Abraham Lincoln was the first republican to be president. He was a very important factor in the Civil War, as he was the leader of the country throughout the war. -
Civil War Ended
Robert E. Lee surrendered the last major Confederate army to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox courthouse. The importance of this event is that it ended the Civil War, ending four long years of fighting in the United States. -
Abraham Lincoln was Killed
Abraham Lincoln was killed by John Wilkes Booth at Ford's theater in Washington, D.C. This was important because I think it helped people to realize that even though the Civil War had ended, there were still a lot of Americans who were not happy with the outcome. -
Ku Klux Klan is Established
Six confederate veterans met in Pulaski, Tennessee established the Ku Klux Klan. This group had a huge impact of the U.S. after the Civil War and unfortunately still exists today. -
Civil Rights Act of 1866
This act declared that from then forward, all people who were born in the U.S. were now U.S. citizens; disregarding race or color. This was important with the fact that it had nothing to do with race, and that it was established for all U.S. citizens. -
Great Chicago Fire
The Chicago Fire was estimated to have killed 300 people and cause $200 million in damage. The importance of this event is that the reconstruction efforts began very quickly afterward,and allowed a great spur in economic development. -

Yellowstone National Park was the first National Park established in the U.S. The importance of this event is that it led to many other national parks in the U.S. and the protection of nature and wildlife.
