This group was tasked to handle the red scare of communism during WW2. it was know in the house as the un-american activities commitee. Its main job was to investigate communist and fascist organiztions in the United States. -

rosa parks was arrested fo not giving up her seat on the bus. in that time somone who was black was required to give up their seat if someone who was white wanted to get on. -
Little Rock desegregates
Litlle Rock highschool was in Little rock Ark. It was a 100% white school untill they were forced to desegregate. it was such a large issue for the south that mobs met every morning to stop black kids for getting into the school. So the president was required to send in the US marshals to protect the children. -
Sputnik
This was the first artificial satalite ever launched into space. The USSR had launched this nto space and it caused wide spread fear across the US because they knew that the russians had a satalite orbiting over them constantly. -
Greensboro sit ins
A series on non violent sit ins that were staged by a bunch of students. This took place in woolworths lunch counter in Greensboro north carolina. It was a protest on segregation in the south. Lines of people were ready to be sent to prison just to prove their point. -
Freedom Rides
groups of whites and blacks who would board buses and ride to the south mainly Alabama. protested segregation of segregated public transportation aross the country. -

This was a physical barrier that divded east and west Berlin. was constructed to divide idiological issues between the allies and the axis powers (USSR). -

This event happend during the cold war. It is when the USSR started to put nukular weapons on cuba which is very close to miami so it was taken as a huge threat to the safty of the United States. -

In august in 1963 250,00 people gathered infront of the lincon memorial in Washington D.C. This is where Martin Luther King jr. made his famous I have a dream speech. This was one of the largest civil rights speeches ever made( amount of people). -
Assassination of JFK
A little after noon JKF was shot while riding in his motorcade through dealey plaza in downtown dallas. He was shot by Lee Harvey Oswald. This may have been because he was preparing to announce his candinency for re-election which he had a good chance of winning. -

This is a very important act in the united states government. It makes it illegal to discriminate based on race. in some cases you had to pass a test or pay money to vote or even get presured to vote one way if you were black. -
Assassination of Malcolm X
Malcom X was shot right before he was suposed deliver a speech about his new civil right organization. he was shot in the audobon ballroom in New York. He was killed by three members of the nation of Islam which is the religeon that he choose to follow. -

This court case made it legal for interracial marriage. I belive this to be very inportant towards civil rights because it should never have been illegal in the first place -

On January 1st North vietnam called a seize fire for the Tet newyear in vietnam. This seize fire was just a stratigic play they really used it to catch American and South Korean forces way off guard. It worked we were caught so far off guard that they were able to take back large amounts of territory taken. -

On May fourth 4 students will killed in a mass shoting and 9 others were injured. members of the Ohio national guard opened fire during a vietnam war protest on campus. -

This amendment made it illegal to discriminate base on sex in public schools in the United States. in other words if the school is government funded it is illegal to discriminate based on sex. -
ROE V. WADE AND DOE V. BOLTON
These were both huge court cases of their time because they both proved that it was unconstitutional to not allow women to terminate their pregnancys. Therefore making abortion across the country legal. -
PREGNANCY DISCRIMINATION ACT
Previously it was not to uncomman for a women to lose her job just for being pregnant. this law made it illegal to discrimanate base on pregnancy. this was a big deal because it helped keep alot of women at work and happy. -
FIRST MARTIAL RAPE LAW PASSES
In Rhode island the first court case apeard makeing spousal rape illegal. this was a big deal because there was a shock amungst many people that it was already not illegal. In a similar case a man was aquitted after raping his wife this was what got many people thinking about this law -
WOMEN IN DRAFT UNCONSTITUTIONAL
the supreme decides that exculding women from the draft is actually constitutional. this is a big deal because it makes it so women dont have to sign up for the draft. this was a very contraversial issue for awhile. -
MDEICAL LEAVE ACT
This acts goal was to make it legal and allow for women to take a leave of work after giving birth to a child. This was given so that women would have time to be with and care for their very young child without having the worry of being fired from their job.
