Black Death
The Black Death killed about 1/3 of the population in Europe. Over 25 million people were killed in 5 years. People even made a nursery rhyme about it called " Ring Around the Rosey." John Dickinson drafted the Olive branch Petition, which was adopted by the second Continental Congress on July 5 and submitted to King George on July 8, 1775. Around 1838 and 1839 the Cherokee was forced to give up their lands east of the Mississippi River. Then to migrate to an area in present day Oklahoma. In 1838 and 1839 part of Andrew Jackson indian removal policy, the Cherokee nation was forced to give up their lands east of the Mississippi River and to migrate to an area in present day Oklahoma. Battle of Gettysburg
On July 1-3 in Pennsylvania it was led by Robert Shaw. General Lee led an offensive attack. On the second day of fighting General Chamberlain (Union) secured the hill. On the 3rd day, general Pickett (confederate) attacked the Ridge (Union) and forced the Confederates to retreat. It was a Union Victory. This is important because this is the turning point of the civil War. -
Gettysburg Address
The Gettysburg Address was a short speech given on November, 19, 1863 by President Abraham Lincoln at the dedication of the National Cemetery at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The Gettysburg Address was delivered in the height of the American Civil War to commemorate the massive numbers of deaths and casualties at the bloody Battle of Gettysburg that was fought July 1–3, 1863. IMPORTANCE: It was important because it was a known speech given by Abraham Licoln. -
Assassination of Licoln
President Lincoln, his wife and some friends had went to the Ford theater to see a play. While watching the play, John Wilkes Booth snuck into the box that President was in and shot him in the back of the head. This is important because this is how Andrew Johnson becomes President.
