Vasco da Gama voyage
De Gama was a famous Portuguese explorer. He wanted to find a route from Europe to Asia so Europe could trade with them. Unlike Coulmbus, De Gama decided to sail east to get to Asia.. After many years and many stops, on May 20, 1498 he reached India. But because India ruler didnt trade with them, De Gama returned home a hero.

Martin Luther was excommuniced or cut off of the catholic church because he posted the 95 thesis on the door. He started his own church later because that catholic church was the only one they had so if he was kicked out that would mean he was going to hell. San Agustin was found in September of 1565 by the Spanish admiral and Florida's first governor. Pedro menendez Aville's. It served as the capital of spanish Flordia for over 200 years.

JamesTown Est.
1607 arrived & named colony JamesTown in honor of King James . It had bad land like swampy and lots of problems. 1608-200 more colonists problems. By 1609- only 53 people left. The leader of JamesTown is John Smith. St the end of 1609-400 more settlers arrived. The winter of 1609-1610 starving or hard Time; only 52 people left. John Rolfe began shipping tobacco from JamesTown to England.
Importance: This was important because it was the first successful colony and after that more people came. -
Plymouth est.
Separatists- totally searate from the Anglican church. !608 went to Holland. William Bradford became governor; of Plymouth plantation. It was difficult times; only 50 people left. Squanto, Massasoit and Samoset helped Pilgrims; 1 st Thanksgiving Oct. 1621
Important: Without this colony the Pilgrims wouldnt have came and it wouldn't be a Thanksgiving. -
Massachusetts Bay Colony
Massachusetts Bay Colony- charter to start a colony in America. 1630-900 Puritans arrive at Mass. Bay & est colony. Winthrop wanted the colony to be a "City on a Hill". They wanted to keep Mass.Bay a Purtitan colony. General court- made laws & elected the goveror.

It was a colony that was estblished in 1633. It was the 1st proprietary colony- owner (prorieter) . This allowed freedom religion. Important: It was important because without this estblishment we wouldn't have catholic churches. -

The Sugar Act was made by the Parliament and it is tax on sugar because they needed money Important: It was impportant today because now we have people represent us and back then they couldn't. -
Quartering Act
The Quarting Act was started in 1765. It was made so the soldiers ( British) could have a place to live and food to drink for free. They could have went to everyone's house at anytime and took over no questions asked, Important: This is important today because now they can't/don't do that because they have their own place to live and they have a place for them when they become soldiers.. -

The Americans started the Stamp Act. It was started because they wanted to put tx on printed materials. Important: This is important because now today they don't have tax on things like printed materials and because of the tax on the printed materials Americsns moved to another place.. America -
Tea Tax
It was required the colonists to only buy British East India Company Tea & placed tax on tea. The colonist didn't like that their was going to be tax on the tea. Important: It was important today because today you can't put tax on something without representation. -
Olive Branch Petition
John Dickinson drafted the Olive Branch Petition, which was adopted by the second continental congress on July 5th and submitted to King George on July 8th 1775. It was the attempt to assert the rights of the colonists while maintaining their loyalty to the British crown. King George refused to read the petition and on August 23rd proclaimed that the colonists had proceeded to open and avowed rebellion. -
Battle of Saratoga
In Sep. 19, 1777 British General John Burgoyne achieved a small but costly victory over American forces led by Horatio Gates and Benedict Hanold. Though his troops strength had been weakend. Burgiyne again attacked theAmericans at Bemis Heights on Oct. 7th but this time was deafed and forced to repeat. -
