The war erupts in Italy
It happened because of various reaseons involving Austria, Holland, The Spanish Netherlands, England and France. The first military action of the war was the French occupation of the Spanish Netherlands (March 1701). This triggered preparation for war in England, Holland and Austria. The French marched a large army under Marshal Nicholas de Catinat to Rivoli, where he hoped to stop the Austrian army under Prince Eugene of Savoy from entering Italy. -

Treaty of Utrecht
The Treaty of Utrecht, which established the Peace of Utrecht, comprises a series of individual peace treaties, rather than a single document, signed by the belligerents in the War of Spanish Succession, in the Dutch city of Utrecht in March and April 1713. Finally, peace negotiations bore fruit. On 11 April 1713 the Treaty of Utrecht ended the war everywhere but between France and Charles VI. Philip V was recognised as king of Spain, but the Spanish Netherlands and most Spanish lands in Italy.
