The potatoes were discovered by Europeans in South America. Farmers were able to produce much more food, it also prevented the catastrophe of a grain crop failure. -
English Civil War
The English Civil War brought the end to monarchy. There was three civil wars in between 1642-51. In 1688 came the "glorious revolution". -
Charles 1st was exucuted
Charles was monarch of three kingdoms, England, Scotland and Ireland. His religious polices and being married to a Roman Catholic, made the English and Scottish parliaments mistrust and ended up in war against them. In 1645 he surrendered to a Scottish force that later handed him over to England. He was tried, convicted and then executed for high treason. -
The Great Fire of London
The Great Fire started in a bakery, it burned most of the city of london for three days. It destroyed 13,200 houses, 87 churches and St Pauls Cathedral. -

The Steam Engine was invented by Thomas Savery. Thomas' steam engine helped to pump out water out of coal mines. It used up loads of coal just to pump out little bits of water at a time -

The Telegraph was invented by Samuel Morse. This device allowed communication over very long distances. It worked by transmitting electrical signals over a wire laid between stations. -
