  • Brown vs. The Board of Education

    Brown vs. The Board of Education
    The supreme court made a judgement that the school district could not segregate schools due to a child's color of skin. This ruling would allow children to attend the school that they live by. The finds were that they could not be separate and equal.
  • Civil Rights Movement

    Civil Rights Movement
    This was a movement to change the segregation that was going on during the 19th century. African Americans were not allowed use the same resources of those that were white. This movement looked to change the way the country was disenfranchising those that were not white.
  • Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens v. Pennsylvania (1972)

    Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens v. Pennsylvania (1972)
    This court proceeding would find that children should be given free education even though that they were mentally restarted. Children from the ages 6 to 21 should be allowed into the same programs that other children are allowed into. It took about a year for the law to come into act from when the court proceedings would be found.
  • Mills v, Board of Education (1972)

    Mills v, Board of Education (1972)
    The court proceeding would allow parents to have access to records and be able to change the labeling of the child. Parents would be able to say where their children would be placed in their class. They would also be notified in writing the stages that were being meet by the children.
  • Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973

    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
    This Section allows for a child to get "free appropriate public education" which would be determined by the child's severity of the disability. These are disabilities that tend to be more medical in nature. These have to have a physical or mental impairments.
  • The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 (EAHCA)

    The Education for All Handicapped Children Act of 1975 (EAHCA)
    This act would be federal dollars that would be given to the school so that disabled students could receive equal access. Children would not be discriminated against in testing. They would start the IEP process with this bill being passed. The IEP would be introduced to each student student with disabilities.

    IDEA 1990
    IDEA would be changed from EHA and would be compound of four parts A,B,C,D. Part C would include infants and toddlers and would bring in new part to early education to help small children with disabilities. Idea it self has six parts of it that help the child and the parents.Individualized Education Program (IEP),Free Appropriate Public Education,Least restrictive environment (LRE),Appropriate evaluation,Parent and teacher participation, and Procedural safeguards.
  • IDEA 1997

    IDEA 1997
    This act would further change the definition of disabled children and it would add ages of children three to nine. They would add grants for children to receive technology and for parents to be able to receive training. Teachers would also be able to receive development and further training.
  • IDEA 2004 (No Child left Behind)

    IDEA 2004 (No Child left Behind)
    President Bush has in-acted and would implement that fifteen states that would have three year IEP's. This act would change the way that children are evaluated and being places. They would have different provisions that could be added to the IEP's and help to place children in proper places.
  • American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009

    American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009
    President Obama instated this act which would "funding the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act". This would bring in about 12.2 billion in additional funds. This act would further give money into special education.
