Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. Printed material became easier to copy and information became easier to disseminate. The massive increase in available reading material has allowed education to reach the middle classes, especially women. -
Public Education
The school was opened for the first time. Some movements of thoughts emerged such as Humanism, Realism, and Rationalism. Francis Bacon, John Locke, Johann Amos Comenius, and Maria Montessori were important names who contributed to education in this period. -
Chalkboard
The chalkboard/blackboard was used for the first time in schools. Rousseau, Herbart, Peztallozi, and Froebel were also among the names that shape education in this period. -
Book
For the first time, books were taught in schools. -
Audiovisual age
Firstly, radio and then film strip projectors/overhead projectors were used in education. Overhead projectors were invented in the 1930s. They were for US military training. -

Information Age
The first instructional TV program was launched by Iowa State University. Thus, instructional TV was used in schools for the first time. In the 1960s, Roger Appledorn updated the projector so it quickly spread to schools. Also, whiteboards were created to replace chalkboards. Computer Age
IBM introduced the first computer, and this computer was used in education. Then, audiotape, and satellite TV systems were added. First smartboards/whiteboards were used. The introduction of the World Wide Web to the world in 1993 marked a turning point in history. It was first used by academics and NASA employees, then it began to be used in homes and schools. -
Digital Age
Local and international internet was used for the first time. The Internet connected many millions of around the world. -
Interactive Age
Document cameras, Smart Response XE, and smartphones were used in this period. After this period, respectively, instant messaging application Skype(2003), video platform Youtube(2005), Interactive textbooks(2005), translation platform Google Translate(2006), Ipads(2010), Chromebooks(2012), smartphones(2015) Learning Management Systems (LMS), Wearable technology, and Virtual reality has taken its place behind the interactive age. -
