Sony, Phillips, and James T. Russel- CD Player
Sony and Phillips debut the first audio CD player. After inspiration from James T. Russel's invention of CD's to steer away from vinyl this would lead to a major change in the music industry and portable music for generations to come.
  • Steve Jobs and Apple- Macintosh

    Steve Jobs and Apple- Macintosh
1984, revolutionized the computer industry even until today. Producing a computer that included graphical user interface (GUI) would change consumers preference for years to come. Icons we have come to know ie., the trash can, folders, and text files can all be attributed to Apple and Steve Jobs producing the Macintosh.
  • DNA Forensics

    DNA Forensics
September of 1984, Dr. Alec Jeffreys, a geneticist from the University of Leicester in Great Britain came upon a revolutionary discovery while studying hereditary diseases. Realizing the variation in fingerprints using invention Restriction Fragment Length Polymorhphism (RFLP) to analyze DNA he soon linked fingerprinting to a suspect of two murders that were near the university. This invention is still used today for forensics and DNA research.
  • Digital Imaging in Dentistry

    Digital Imaging in Dentistry
We are all aware of how uncomfortable dental x-rays are with film. What a lot of people are not aware of is that the first digital radiography system launched by Dr. Francis Mouyen, the radio visio graphy (RVG) was invented in 1987. This provided the dental field the ability to transition from film sensor radiographs to CCD image sensors that take a "picture" of the tooth and display the image instantly on the computer. This saves time and money for patients as well as the dental practice.
  • World Wide Web

    World Wide Web
In 1989, Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (www), which is an internet based initiative that is still prevalent today for global information sharing. This was a pivotal role in computer technology that benefits us today for research, communication, and information.
