  • Period: 1095 to 1099

    First Crusades

    Pope Urban II makes a speech at the Council of Clermont, urging Christians to take up arms and reclaim the Holy Land.
  • Period: 1147 to 1149

    Second Crusade

    The second crusade was led by European kings, but their attempts were failed as they couldn't recapture lost territories.
  • Period: 1187 to 1192

    Third Crusade

    Phillip II of France, The Lionheart, Frederick I, Holy Roman Empire led the third crusade and acquired many territories but failed to get Jerusalem.
  • Period: 1202 to 1204

    Fourth Crusade

    Pope Innocent III declares a fourth crusade to get back Jerusalem.
  • 1212

    Children's Crusade

    Tens of thousands of children marched into the Holy Land, none of them made it there, and they were most likely sold to slavery as they were never seen again.
  • Period: 1217 to 1272

    Crusades Five through Nine

    Throughout the next several years, there were 5 more Crusades, none of them were successful.
