I started speaking when I was 3 yrs

I started speaking late but I can gladly say the wait was worth it. Before I started speaking I always wined and cried whenever I wanted something. I know now that I'm older this really frustrated my parents. Thankfully, I finally started speaking just a few months before I went to preschool. However, my parents were speaking to me in our native language. Taking into account how slow my development was, they agreed learning English was the priority language for me to learn.

Went to Summer school at 5 yrs

As kindergarten approached, my parents enrolled me into summer school due to me stuttering and having very low reading skills. My time in summer school turned out successful as I improved in these areas and started speaking regularly instead of crying whenever I needed or wanted something. I overall had a good time in summer school and loved listening to my teacher reading books to the class.

Started reading books on my own

In first grade, I started reading books on my own. I would often go onto Raz-kids as it was my favorite site to read my grade level books. Overtime, I even improved in spelling and writing as I gained a habit of enjoying writing and spelling hard words. By the end of 1st grade I was very proud of how far I came in my reading and writing skills compared from where I was a few years ago.

Started writing essays in 3rd grade

By this time I had no issues when it came to reading and writing simple assignments. Though my stuttering was still an issue for me, my speech therapist helped me contain the issue by using tools to help ease the stuttering. Mainly, I started writing essays in third grade and did more unit tests than I did the previous year. Though I was never perfect, I still did manage to take on the intensive assignments and overall did alright.

Started my own realistic fiction series writing out stories

In 4th grade, I really dug deep when it came to writing essays. Prior to writing my first essay/story of the year, I made a decision that I was going to make my own personal realistic fiction series. Eventually I made around 10 stories of my personal series. I also did a Natural disasters group project in 4th grade where me and my group wrote about the natural disaster we picked. Overall I probably made around 15-20 essays throughout the year. This really made me feel good about myself.

    I did a Project in 6th grade

In 6th grade, me and my class did an Ancient Egypt Chapter book project. We were to choose what topic on this Chapter to do. I chose to do the Nile River topic. This project for me felt like one of the biggest accomplishments I've ever achieved. This is because I have never used so many features and formats on a document I was writing. I was really pleased and impressed with what I accomplish. This project is what excelled me more in researching, reading, typing and writing.

Read The Book "Dear Martin" in 8th grade with my Class

"Dear Martin" by Nic Stone was one of if not the most intriguing book I have ever read with my class. This is what always made my ELA 8th grade class so exciting. We always wanted to know what was going to happen with the drama the book had. This is the book I would say that got me more into reading before I headed for West Haven high school the following year.

ON TOP OF MY ASSIGNMENTS SOPHOMORE YEAR

I had a successful time when it came to essays in both my English and US History classes sophomore year. I always got my work done on time and always participated when it came to reading an article in History class or a book we were to write an essay about in English. Come the end of the year, my English teacher was very satisfied with what I accomplished throughout the year and suggested I take AP Language as it can benefit me for my future. With that being said, this is how I got here.
