The Stamp Act
The Stamp Act of 1765 made Americans pay taxes in the form of stamps. These stamps had to go on everything, from deck of cards to a tea pot. The tax dollars went to funding the defence against the Americans, which enraged them. It was eventually repealed in 1766. -

The Tea Act
The Tea Act was an Act of the Parliament of Great Britain. Its The main objective of the Tea Act was to reduce the massive surplus of tea held by the East India Company in its warehouses and to help the company survive. A related objective was to undercut the price of tea smuggled into Britain's American colonies. This lead to the "Boston Tea Party" of 1773. -
The Boston Tea Party
The "Sons of Liberty," a group meant to protect the rights of the colonists and to take to the streets against the abuses of the British government, dressed as Mohawks (Most easterly tribe of the Iroquois confederation), and threw tea into the harbour to protest the new Tea Act. The "Boston Tea Party" was well organized adn well-supervised by leaders. -
The Quebec Act
The Quebec Act was a rule imposed by the British to set the new authority of the province of Quebec, which was another colony in North America. Due to the rise of rebels and groups in the American colonies, the British Empire became worried that the French Canadians would follow. The Quebec Act was formed in order to keep the people in check and to make sure that they kept their loyalties to the Parliament. -
The First Continental Congress
convention of delegates from twelve colonies (not including Georgia) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.The Congress was attended by 56 representatives appointed by the legislatures of twelve of the Thirteen Colonies. They decided to work together, despite the wishes of the British King. -
The Revolution Begins
When a shot was fired (probably due to excitiment), it was known as "The Shot Heard Round The World" and referred to the beginning of the American Revolutionary War in the battles of Lexington and Concord. It caused the British to fire at the Americans, who were driven away, but not damaged. Also, militias from around the countryside attacked the British force, killing and hurting many British soldiers. -
The Revolutionary War
The Americans knew that they needed an army to fight the British on the battlefield. With colonial leaders such as George Washington, the revolutionaries were a sizable force. George Washington was made commander of the Continental Army. The Americans attempted to seize Quebec (so no backdoor path for Britain) but to no avail. -
The Declaration of Independence
While battles continued between the British and the Continental Army, the colonial delegates of the Continental Congress continued to meet. It seemed as if thier only option was independance from Britian. So a document declaring their independance was created in 1776. Most of it was written by Thomas Jefferson with help from Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert R. Livingston and Roger Sherman. This document was named the Declaration of independance. -
The Revolution Succeeds
Although the Declaration of Independance didn't end the revolution, it was a contributing factor to the end in 1783, when the French joined with the Americans against the British. The Americans took their own independance at stated it back to a more powerful leader. Together, the Americans succeeded in their search for freedom. Things such as the Declaration of Independance helped give Americans their principles of democracy and freedom.
