  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    In 1764, Parliament passed the Suger Act. This law placed a tax on suger, molasses, and other products shipped to the colonies. It also called for strict enforcement of the act and harsh punishment of smugglers. Colonial merchants, who often traded in smuggled goods, reacted with anger.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This law required all legal and commercial docments to carry an offical stamp showing that a tax had been paid.
    Even published materials such as newspapers had to be written on special stamped paper

  • THE QUARTERING ACT

    THE QUARTERING ACT
    Required the colonies to provide barracks and supplies to British troops.
    This act was passed on June Second 1765.
    The Quartering Act was an indirect tax for the colonist.
  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a fight between the Patriots and a group of British soldiers.
    British troops were unwelcomed in the city of Boston .
    Riots began when about 50 citizens attacked a British guard.
    Town meeting demanded the removal of the British.
  • The Gaspee

    The Gaspee
    Lieutenant William Duddington charged with patrolling the waters of Narragansett Bay,
    Majesty's Ship Gaspee, was charged with patrolling the waters of Narragansett Bay and had earned a reputation.
    The British ordered a full investigation. They offered a reward to anyone identifying the people responsible. No one came forward, and no one was ever charged for the offence.

    British punish Boston people by closing the port and sending additional troops
    Parliament passed a series of laws to punish Massachusetts colony and to serve as a warning to other colonies.
    The British called these laws the Coercive Acts, but they were so harsh that the colonists called them the Intolerable Acts.
