    "1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue". He is recognized for the "Columbian Exchange". It's the exchange of humans, animals, plants, and diseases between the Americas and other continents.

    Alonzo Alvarez de Pineda
    In 1519 he mapped the Texas coast. He was also the first European to see and walk on the coast. He died in 1533.

    Hernan Cortes
    Cortes wanted the treasures of the Aztecs. He took Moctezuma the second, their leader, as a prisoner. In 1520 they fought the Aztecs and the Spanish left. He came up with a new plan and defeated the Aztecs.

    Panfilo de Narvaez
    In 1527 he led a voyage to the Gulf of Mexico. He wanted to find riches so he went to the Apalachee. When he finally got there, there was nothing. Their ship was missing and they were stranded until the Karankawa Indians saved there life's.

    Alvar Nunez Cabez de Vaca
    He was capured by the Coahuiltecans. After two years he and some friends escaped. At one village Vaca removed an arrowhead from a mans chest and stitched it up. He became celebrated as a healer. He survived because of the fame of being a healer. He also wrote a book.

    Francisco Vasquez de Coronado
    His goal was to conquer Cibola. He had a battle with the Zuni Indians and won. He did not find any gold.
  • Juan de Onate

    Juan de Onate
    Born in Zacatecas, Mexico in 1550, Juan de Oñate’s request to conquer and govern New Mexico was approved in 1595. In 1598 he crossed the Rio Grande at El Paso. From there he sent out small parties in all directions to search for treasure that did not exist. In a last attempt to recover his prestige, he led an expedition west to the Colorado River and south to the Gulf of California, but he still found no gold. He resigned in 1607.

    He expanded France's empire. He claimed the land arround the Mississippi River. He wanted silver. They got lost and lots of them died. He was killed by one of his on soldiers.
