  • Stepped Reckener

    Could add, subtract, multiply, divide, and find or simplify square roots. It was created by Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. Link

    A major programmer influence. Ada Byron was also called Lady Lovelace. She stated no computer no matter how powerful could ever develop a thought process. This is still true today. Link

    He lived from these dates. Link
  • Analytical Engine

    Was worked on by Charles Babbage; it was made for navigation for ships. It led to the Analytical Engine. It was worked on until Charles Babbage died. It followed programs on punch cards, and made decisions. It was never finished. Link

    At the end of the 19th century, Census took 9 years to collect. This machine was created from Census, and it used electricity over gears.

    He lived from these dates. The idea for CPU to be able to control all functions came from him. Link
