Story of my Life

  • A trip down memory lane

    A trip down memory lane
At the age of four, I rode on an airplane for the first time of my life. I was on the aerial path to visit my family. This vacation was honestly one of the best times of my life. I had met at leat ten of my cousins, of whom were all the coolest people in the world to me. It was also my first time experiencing any type of cold weather. It was here, on this specific trip, that I learned what family is all about. Family is all about laughter and good times. I never quit asking when we'd go again.

My first day of school was one I will always remember. I went to ECS. Contrary to today, I loved puting on an uniform. I had heard that school was a place to make friends and I couldn't wait! I quickly learned that sharing was expected although I hated it. I picked up the blocks expecting to have them to myself for the day, as another student asked to join me. This was going to be interesting.

When I joined the soccer team, I wasn't aware that soccer was more than a sport. Some of the lessons I learned on the field, I still value today. One of these lessons is aggressiveness. Before I joined the Strikers soccer league, I learned that I had been playing too nice. All the kids were eager to steal the ball as I calmly let them take it. My coach quickly set me straight. He told me to stop letting everyone else shove me around and play like I mean it. I took his advice and got much better.

At the age of six, I came home to my dad complaining about a kid that kept messing my kickball game at recess. His name was Tripp, and he loved causing trouble. Tripp specifically enjoyed messing with me. I learned a lesson somewhere along the lines of, enough is enough. Although I probably shouldn't have done this, I punched the kid in the stomach and made him cry. I would agree today that that was too far, but I learned that you can't let people walk alll over you.

songWhen I was eight years old, I took my very first guitar lesson. I had really wanted to learn to play the guitar because I was inspired by a video game called guitar hero along with various rock bands. It's normal for me to go through random phases like this. Here I learned how to read music, and play the first minute or so of "Cliffs of Dover." I stuck with this hobby for two years.

I quickly learned after tying on my white belt that self defense is key in life. My instructer put great emphasis on this and drilled it in our heads. Then and there, I learned this literally. It wasn't until I earned my blue belt that I realized that self defense is also mental. You can't believe everything everybody tells you, especially if they're puting you down. It's important to defend in what you believe about yourself. Don't let anyone change your own thoughts about yourself.

articleOn July 28, 2009, I stepped on the baseball diamond with the number five on my back to play the state championship. This was one of the most exciting, yet nerve racking moments of my life. After taking the win, I learned something important. I learned a lesson that my coach had been trying to teach all year long: That hard work pays off. Up until this day, I still apply the idea of hard work paying off in anything I may do. article

Prior to freshman year I didn't even know what having work ethic meant. My middle school days, consisted of absolutely no studying, and a very small amount of homework. Freshman year changed my forehabits. This signifigant mark in my life, sparked a change in my attitude towards to school work. I developed a strong work ethic and I have cared it through to this day.

It wasn't until the first day of senior year that I stopped myself and asked, "where did the time go?" I have learned the lesson that life is short. Knowing that I will be in college in less then a year, confirms the near-end of my childhood. It is important to cherish every moment and to take into account that fun times (childhood) do not last forever.
