    PARC vs. Pennsylvania
    This was the event of 1971 where the PARC (Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Children) had sued commonwealth Pennsylvania for enforcing a law that allowed public schools to deny education to certain children, mostly to those who have not reached a mental age of 5.

    Mills Versus Board of Education of the District of Columbia.D
    During this time period many parents filed a lawsuit against the Board of Education of the District of Columbia because of the lack of interest that schools took in special education students. A special curriculum was not available in the public school system, thus resorting to 18,000 special education students not receiving the correct and adequate schooling they needed.

    Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 was a significant even because it was the first disability civil rights law to be passed in the United States. This law Prohibits any discrimination towards students with disabilities. It also ensures that students with disabilities receive an adequate education. Section 504 also works with ADA and IDEA that goes to protect students and adults from any exclusion from schools or community.

    In 1975 Congress enforced the 'Education for all Handicapped Act' in which supported states in protecting rights and meeting children and families with disabilities needs in education.

    This act refered to in 1975 was when the United States passed the act of requiring all public schools accepting funding to require equal access to education and one free meal a day for students.
  • The Rowley Decision

    The Rowley Decision
    The Rowley decsision was a very significant case that involved the board of education against a family who had a daughter of the name of Amy Rowley. Amy Rowely was deaf and not receiving the adequate programs for her to be involved in school. The IDEA act was not applied to every student with special needs and she was one of them. In the IDEA act it was proposed that every student would be provided with the adequate program, but this just was not the case and people misunderstood the meaning.

    This event was passed by congress in 1990 and it was the nations first comprehensive civil rights act addressing the needs of individuals with disabilities that banned any discrimination in employment, public service or education.

    The special education needs and act of 2001 had established legal rights for disabled students in pre and post education by changes in policy and practices in favor of students.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act
    The no child left behind act authorized many education programs that are enforced by the state. This act was to authorize and enforce testing for all students including special education students in 3rd through 8th Grade.
