Columbus' first voyage
Columbus set sail to find a western route to Asia/India. He was credited for discovering the New World (North and South America) but didn't know it was a new world. Columbus explored the Carribean Islands, the Bahammas (the first landing). his discoveries were the New World, gold, and the Native Americans. Columbus' inportance was the he started the Spanish exploring in North America because of the riches he found (made four trips). -

Pineda's voyage
Pineda wanted to find a water-route to the Pacific Ocean. Pineda was the first to map the Gulf Coast from Florida to Texas. Plus, he made a report of the region. The area he explored was the Gulf Coast to Texas. Pineda possibly discovered the Rio Grande. His importance was that the map of the Gulf Coast led to others exploring that land. -

Cortes Voyage
He sailed to Mexico to find gold. He conquered the Aztecs alopng with their leader Montezuma. He brought back six-million dollars worth of gold. Plus, he brought back 99 tons by 1570. The area explored was Mexico. The discoveries he made were the Aztec Empire and found tons of gold. His importance was that he sparked the interest of many people to explore North and South America because he found so much gold. -

De Vaca discovered Texas by escaping from being slaves. De Vaca was there a year before escaping to Texas. He met the tribes Karankawa, Coahuiletcan, and Jumano Indians. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban's Journey
The purpose of Fray Marcos and Estaban's journey was to study the land to the North Evaluate. However, Esteban was a slave and went back to Spain. Then, Fray Marcos reported that he had found the golden city. -

Moscoso's Expedition
The leader was DeSoto and when DeSoto died he was buried but then he was dug out of his hgrave because the Indians became suspicious and they threw him into the Mississippi River. Moscoso and DeSoto were exploring from Florida to Texas since no onem after Pineda had gone exploring. -

Coronado's Expedtition
Coronado searched for the two cities named Quivera and Cibola. His guide for the second part of his trip/expedition was the Turk. Once Coronado has figured out what Turk was trying to do, he made him dig up his own grave and then Coronado strangled him. What Coronado did discover was the Palo Duro Canyon and the Grand Canyon. The importance to our history is that he mapped the Northern Gulf.
