Columbus Discovers the new world
Columbus sailed looking for a shorter route to Asia to find gold and riches for the Queen and King of Spain. instead of landing in Asia, he landed in the "New World."He saw that the Indians had gold and wanted all of it. He soon demanded gold from them and even killed them for it. Once he was back in Spain, the king and queen were not impressed. Columbus' voyage was important because it sparked lots of attention to go find find more gold and valuables in the New World. -

Cortes Voyage
On Cortes voyage, he conquered Mexico, and also conquered the Aztecs tribe. This was important because it lead him to finding new land and riches. One of his Accomplishments were to find 99 tons of gold, in which he did. He killed the Aztecs and conquered their land. -

Pinedas' Voyage
Pineda mapped the gulf. It is important that he did this because another explorer will explore what he mapped. This triggers more exploration on and by the gulf. -

De Vaca Voyage Part 1
De Vaca's purpose of his expedition was to search for gold in Florida with his original leader named Narvez. His importance in history was he he started exploration in Texas. This was a very big deal because it made other explorers want to look for gold in the same area. Years that he explored were 1528-1537. Some of his accomplishments were being a shaman, a spirtual leader, which required respect fame and power to comfort the wounded and sick. -

DeVaca discovers Texas
When DeVaca reported that Texas had the 7 cities of gold, that triggered more exploration and caused him to go to Texas for further exploration. While DeVaca was exploring, he encountered 3 tribes which were the Karankawas, Coahuiltecan, and the Jumanos. After about 8 years, DeVaca was reported missing until he was later found in Mexico. -

Moscosco' Expedition
Moscoso's expedition was led by De Soto. De Soto died on the banks of Mississippi River. Moscoco didn't find anything, he gave the same report as Coronado saying that there was no gold. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban Journey
The purpose of Fray Marcos and Esteban's Journey was to study the land to the North evaluate and to search for wealthy cities. Fray brought his slave, Esteban, along with him. When Esteban approached a group of very mean Indians and asked them where his women and food were, the Indians chased him with spears and knifes. He was never heard from again.Fray Marcos reported that he saw a giant city of gold. -

Coronado's Expedition
Coronado's guide to the 7 cities of gold was fray Marcos and his guide to Quivera was The Turk. His purpose was to find the 7 cities of gold for Spain. The two cities that he searched for was Quivera and Cibola. His guide for the second part was the Turk, who said that those cities had tons of gold there, but there really wasn't. Because of that, The Turk was put to death. The importance of this journey was to report that Texas had no gold. Coronado discovered the palo duro and grand canyon.
