On august. 3, 1492 Columbus set sail for Asia/India. he was hoping to find a new trade route. instead he ran into the Caribbean,he then started the first permanent colony in America. Columbus also started the Spanish exploration. -

Cortes' voyage
in 1519 Cortes conquered the Aztec empire, in what is now mexico city. Cortes was important because he told others that there where 7 cities of gold which made more explorers go to Mexico. -

Pineda explored the gulf of mexico, as a result he created a map that showed the Gulf of mexico. this came in handy when Cortes told people that there was seven cities of gold. Pineda's map caused more explores to go to Mexico. -

DeVaca's voyage
DeVaca set sail in 1528. he was headed for texas to look for gold with his leader, Narvez. -

DeVaca discovers texas
On November 5th, 1528 Cabaza DeVaca shipwrecked on Galveston, Texas. DeVaca and three others stayed on the island for 4 years with the karankawa Indians. he eventually sets out to find Mexico city. -

Fray Marcos and Esteban journey
Fray Marcos and Esteban where sent to study the land of Texas, New Mexico, Florida, Arizona, California. Esteban got killed by Zuni Indians. and Fray Marcos reported the seven cities of gold. -

Moscoso's Expedition
Desoto was actually the leader until he died, then Moscoso took over. when Moscoso arrived in Texas the Caddo Indians greeted Moscoso using the word tey-yas which is were we get the name Texas. Moscoso later backed up Coronado's idea that Texas was no good. -

Coronado's Expedition
Coronado was searching for the seven cities of gold and Quivira. Coronado's guide was Fray Marcos. Coronado got mad at Fray Marcos because he lied to Coronado about the second city of gold. so Fray Marcos ran away. Coronado discovered the Grand canyon and Palo Duro canyon. Coronado reported that Texas was horrible, no gold, harsh land and mean Indians. So no one came to Texas for 150 year.
