Columbus' First Voyage

Aug 3, 1492

Christopher Columbus was a Spanish explorer. At the time the Spanish were at war with the Moors and were going broke. The Spanish needed more riches cause that ment power for them. Columbus propoesed a new route to asia that would be through water. Columbus found a new continent when he sailed for two months. He brought Gold, indian slaves, spices, riches and not a lot more. If it wasnt for him America wouldnt have been discovered. He wouldnt have encouraged other explorers to sail to America.

Corte's Voyage

Jan 1, 1519

Cortes conquered Mexico. He mainly conquered Tenochtitlan and the Aztec tribe. He killed Moctezuma, the Aztec emperor, to rule the Aztecs.He also found 99 tons of goold in Mexico and took it back to Spain. This influinced more people to go to the New World, not like Columbus.

Pineda's Voyage

Jan 1, 1519

Pineda was sent to explore the Gulf Coast of the New World to find a water passage to Asia through there. He was the first one to map the Gulf Coast too.

DeVaca's Voyage Part 1

Jun 17, 1527

Pineda's ship captain was Narvaez. They were sent to Florida to claim territory for Spain.

DeVaca's Discovers Texas

Nov 5, 1527

There was a shipwreck when they came upon a hurricane. They landed in Florida, but then they built rafts thinking they could sail back to Mexico. They landed in Galveston Island and met the Karankawas. He moved throughout Texas and met the Coahuiltecans, and the Jumanos. He walked 8 years hoping he could found by other fellow Spanish that would take him back to spain. Finally, it happenned.

Fray Marcus and Esteban's Journey

After the survivors of DeVaca's journey went back to Spain, they claimed that there was 7 cities of gold. Esteban( a former slave from DeVaca's journey) was sent to look for a golden city. With him there was sent Fray Marcus to turn some Indians into christians. Once they got there, Esteban was killed by the Indians. The Fray climbed a mountain and claimed the city was made ouut of gold. The Spanish believed this, but the cities were actually made out of Adobe

Moscoso's Expedition

May 25, 1539

Luis de Moscoso Alvarado was a member of Hernando de Soto's expedition. Three years later, De Soto's died of a fever and his body was thrown into the Mississippi river. They discovered the Mississippi river.

Coronado's Expedition

Jan 1, 1540

Coronado's was looking for El Dorado and Quivira( Golden cities).He was guided by the Turk and after they got to the fake golden city, The Spanish found out they were being tricked, so they chocked him to death. In his journey he discovered the Grand Canyon. Coronado told the Spanish negative stuff about Texas and there wasnt any Spanish Expeditions for 60 years.
