  • "Cash and Carry"

    "Cash and Carry” was an American policy put in place on 21 September 1939, the agreements were between the United States, France, and England. The deal was that if France and England wanted the United State’s old weapons they first had to come across the Atlantic in boats, give the United States money, and carry the weapons away on their boats.
  • "Phony War"

    The “Phony War” was half a year after Germany took over Poland, and no other hostilities between the Allies, and the Axis took place. The “Phony War” began on 3 October 1939, and lasted until 10 May 1940; it got its name because they were technically at war, but neither side did anything, hence the “Phony” war.
  • Blitzkrieg

    In German Blitzkrieg means “lightning war” and this was Adolf Hitler’s tactic to win wars quickly and effectively; the Blitzkrieg wars were fast, decisive, and effective. Germany used Blitzkrieg against Poland, and on 10 May 1940 Germany successfully invaded Belgium to attack France where it was vulnerable.
  • "Destroyers for Bases"

    The United States and England had made a second military supply agreement on 2 September 1940. This agreement went further than the “Cash Carry '' agreement; this agreement was that the United States would give the United Kingdom their old destroyers, and in return for the destroyers the United Kingdom would let the United States build military bases on England’s colonies, and territories.
  • Tripartite Pact

    On 27 September 1940, the Tripartite Pact was signed, and the new Axis force of Germany, Italy, and Japan was created. Japan was a very fast-growing power in Asia; they agreed with Germany, and they would take over most of the Pacific.
  • "Lend Lease"

    The “Lend Lease” Act was put in place on 11 March 1941, and it was signed by Franklin D. Roosevelt. The objective was to defend the United States by aiding the Allies with food, and supplies for free as long as they used the supplies to fight against the Axis to keep the United States safe.
  • Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor

    On the morning of 7 December 1941, a large squadron of Japanese bombers bombed Pearl Harbor United States Naval Base in Hawaii. They killed more than 2,000 personnel; however, the Japanese started a war with the United States in doing this, and if the United States was at war with a member of the Axis, then the United States was at war with the whole Axis, beginning America’s physical involvement in the war.
  • Wannsee Conference

    The Wannsee Conference took place in Wannsee Germany, just outside of Berlin, and it took place on 20 January 1942. It was a meeting between all of the leading Nazi leadership on what they should do with all of the Jewish people in all of Germany, and the land that they conquered.
