Scientists of DNA

  • Miescher

    Miescher
Miescher used the exudate from pus covered bandages to isolate the substance nuclein. He discovered nucleic acids which are the building blocks of DNA.
  • Chargaff

    Chargaff
Chargaff discovered two rules: 1) That the amount of adenine is equal to the amount of thymine and 2) that the amount of guanine is equal to the amount of cytosine. This contributed to the structure of the DNA molecule.
  • Franklin

    Franklin
Rosalind Franklin discovered the X shape in the chromosome in the double helix 1951. She discovered this by X-ray diffraction photographs. This was confirmed by Watson and Crick so this contributed to how hereditary information is coded as well.
  • Hershey and Chase

    Hershey and Chase
Hershey and Chase discovered, through a series of experiments, and confirmed that DNA is genetic material.
  • Watson and Crick

    Watson and Crick
Watson and Crick discovered DNA in the 1950s. These two scientists discovered the double helix and the twisted-ladder structure of the deoxyribonucleic acid, or DNA. To find this discovery, the two scientist used X-ray diffraction to study DNA.Their discovery was used to explain how DNA replicates and also how hereditary information is coded.
  • Meselson and Stahl

    Meselson and Stahl
Meselson and Stahl supported the hypothesis that DNA replication was semiconservative. This was discovered by an experiment with the help of a nuclear physicist, Amandeep Sehmbi
