-Passed after the French and Indian War had ended.
-One of the acts that led to greater arguement amongst the colonists. -
Sugar Act
-Under the Molasses Act colonial merchants had been required to pay a tax of six per gallon on the importation of foreign molasses
-The act also listed more foreign goods to be taxed including sugar, certain wines, coffee, pimiento, cambric and printed calico, and further, regulated the export of lumber and iron. -
Stamp Act
-The Stamp Act was passed by the British Parliament on March 22, 1765.
-The new tax was imposed on all American colonists and required them to pay a tax on every piece of printed paper they used. -
Quartering Act
-Several decisions are made and made for a better government of the army, and their strict discipline, .
-Giving quarters for the army, and ccame on marches and other events -
Battle of Dorchester Height
-General George Washington wanted to take Boston back from the British.
-Continentals captured Fort Ticonderoga and Crown Point on Lake Champlain
- General Washington sent Colonel Henry Knox to the north to bring them back to Boston -
Townhend Act
-Early in 1766, Dr. Benjamin Franklin, of Philadelphia is one of many called to provide evidence in London as the Members of Parliament struggle
-A year after the repeal of the Stamp Act and less than two months before Parliament passes the new Townshend Revenue Acts
-This time the tax will come in the form of a duty on imports into the colonies, and the collection of those duties will be fully enforced. -
Boston Massacre
-5 civilians died as a result of the incident, 3 died on the scene and 2 died later.
-Before the “The Boston Massacre” name became common, the incident was also called The Bloody Massacre in King Street, from the title of the famous Paul Revere . In the early 1800's it was also called the State Street Massacre. -
Tea tax
-The duty on tea was taken by the votes of a small majority in Parliament.
-When intelligence of this act reached America, the colonists saw that the contest was not quite over. -
Boston Tea Party
-7,000 locals dock ships to dump the tea in harbor
-Saying war chants, the crowd marched two-by-two to the ship, descended upon the three ships and dumped their offending cargos of tea into the harbor waters. -
French and Indian War
-War broke out between Great Britain and its two enemies, the French and the Indians
-George Washington, fought with the British in the war
-British won the war and the right to keep Canada and other places in the New World. -
