  • Birth

I was born in Fukui, Japan. I was very healthy and BIG. I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters. I’m the 3rd youngest. I didn’t have much and if I did they were hand-me-downs.
  • Leaving Japan

I packed everything up and sold or gave all my big items that I couldn’t take with me. I got in a carriage and rode to the port. I found a place for myself, and set my stuff up. I lie down and think of what America was going to be like. Big, open, free, opportunity, perfect. It’s fitting that my name mean the land, and I was on a boat to a new one.
  • See Alcatraz

    Morning,
I saw the big building on an island and thought it was where we were going. So I packed every thing up and some man said “Wow look at the prison.” Prison? I began to panic and thought they were throwing me in prison. Then we passed by it and I was relieved.
  • Angel Island

    Afternoon,
I walked under an American flag and saw the dirty building was packed. It was scary seeing all different kinds of people yelling, and talking. I didn’t know what languages some of them spoke. I was checked by a doctor and then signed a couple of papers and I was an American.
  • Transcontinental railroad

I had all the dangerous jobs. I had to throw TNT into the side of mountain, and run! Some of my buddies died running out of the newly formed caves. I also had to work on the heights, building bridges. I made less than the average American made.
  • Family comes to america

My family comes to America. I saw my brothers and sisters for the first time in 50 years. They looked old like I do. They had their children and grandchildren.
