First European habitation in Ile Saint Croix
While European traders and fisherman had visited the shores of the future Acadia before 1604, the French presence was established by a group of explorers and buisnessmen, including Samuel de Champlain. These figures spent the winter in Acadia, at the mouth of the Saint Croîx River. -

The decision has been made, however the expulsion of the Acadians has only just begun. Thousands of the Acadians were killed and deported to other places. -

All the Acadians who fled to other places before the deportation were rounded up and sent to France.
