    Leonardo da Vinci

    Leonardo da Vinci was a famous sculptor and painter . One of his most famous painting is the Mona Lisa. Leonardo was gifted in many fields. Most of his work was inspired by other artists. He was a perfect example in the Renaissance.

    Was called the father of modern astronomy. His scientific work showed he was highly creative.He was taught that Earth was the center of the universe. 1514 he printed a booklet that outlined his theory.

    Trade brought goods and new ideas to Europe. People traveled on the Silk Road to China. Some Italian cities we centrally located on trade routes. Some merchants and traders got very rich because of trade.

    Humanism first arose in Italy from the renewed intrest of classical culture. One humanist was an Italian poet named Francesco Petrarch. Scholars all over Europe went to Italy to learn more about humanism. The humanists did not imatate the past.

    William Shakespeare was an English Poet and Playwright. He was a skilled actor but even better poet. He wrote very popular sonnets like Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, Macbeth, and The Merchant og Venice.

    Lasted from the 1300s to the 1600s. They had religious and nonreligious scenes. Art reflected a great interest in nature. Colors were shown responding to light. Full backgrounds showed perspective.
