The Start of Renaissance
The Renaissance began around the mid 14th century in Florence Italy. The Renaissance was a re-birth of culture and tradition. With new culture, new artist, new literature, and new paintings, Italian was booming. Individualism, humanism, secularism, and classicism are all key words during this time period. During the Renaissance, a lot of the ideas had to do with ones self or humanism. -

Petrarch (1304-1374)
Also known as the father of humanism, Petrarch was born on 1304. Petrarch was an Italian poet and the first person known to start the Renaissance. He made Italy aware of the new era they were coming into and revived a form of Latin into Italy. -

Black Death 1348-1351
The Black Death left Europe without 40% of their people, making the labor shortage in Europe suffer tremendously. Peasants were bargaining for more money to improve labor condition, making the lords pay with them money. Europe was left with a major scar and a huge population decrease. During the labor shortage, most of European's population became African Americans slaves helping pave the way for the Renaissance. -

Gutenberg Invented the Printing Press
With the invention of a printing press, the Renaissance became more widely known. The art and literature of artist were being able to be past to people in France and Italy, making more people become inspired. This helped the Renaissance start and grow. -

Lorenzo de' Medici (1449-1492)
Lorenzo de' Medici was known as the "Magnificent" because he ruled under Florence during the "Golden Era." He was known to be a strong supported of civic humanism and a patronage of the arts. Followed by his death, there was an invasion of Italy by foreign powers and the decline of Renaissance in Florence. -

Florence was the first city where the Renaissance began mostly because of the culture and the economic advances. Artist could walk outside their door and see the culture of old classics and that inspired writers and artist to do more classicism stuff. -

Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)
Leonardo da Vinci or as some people call him "Renaissance Man" was very famous for the Mona Lisa, The Last Supper and Madonna of the Rocks. Leonardo was not only an artist but also a scientist, inventor, and engineer. He introduced the notion of systematic observation. -

Baldassar Castiglione (1478-1529)
Baldassar Castiglione was mostly known for the Book of the Courier, a how-to manual on how to be rich and powerful. He talks about the "Renaissance Man" and how they should act. He also encouraged education for women but more in the means of instruments, poetry and literacy. -

Spanish Inquisition starts
Ferdinand and Isabella supported the Spanish Inquisition, which made Jews and Muslims convert to Catholics. People were burnt at the stake and some many non-Catholics were killed. The Spanish Inquisition and its colonies were finally suppressed in 1834. -

Niccolo Machiavelli (1496-1527)
Machiavelli was known to be one of the most famous figures in the Renaissance era writing the Prince. Machiavelli does not believe in the Divine Right of Kings and he made his own power and rules. His name is associated with politics since the 16th century and still used today. -

Northern Renaissance
The Italian Renaissance started in Italy and did not go into other countries into 1497. While Italian Renaissance was focused on humanism, the Northern Renaissance was more focused on Catholic humanism that focused on classicism of the church. Erasmus was the one of the most famous Northern Renaissance artist. -

94 Theses
Martin Luther king posted the 95 theses on the church door in Wittenberg, Germany to make people change to the Protestant church. This date started the Church of England as well as the Protestant church. Martin Luther posted the thesis to defy the church because with the idea of humanism at this time period, he thought he could do anything. -

Peasant Revolt (1524-1525)
The Peasant Revolt was started by the idea that humanist are people that value the human being and life itself. With the peasant knowing about this idea, the revolt against the king was more to do with the peasant wanting more with their life. Luther helped the peasants with the revolt, although ended it on the side of the kings. -

Prince was published
Prince by Machiavelli was published on this date, talking about how rulers should rule in this time period. Without this book, this world would not have any communist political parties to run countries. Rulers still use the book today by communist rulers all around the world -

Henry VIII Created the Church Of England
Henry, the eight, created the Church of England, somewhat similar to the Catholic Church, but a church in which someone could divorce in. Henry wanted to leave Catherine for another women and in the Catholic faith this is not allowed, so he created another church.
