    Lead by Jacob and George Donner, left Springfield, illinois, in April 1846. The party followed the California Trail went to westward to Fort Bridger, Wyoming. They decided to redirect to a shorter route, follow the instruction by Lansford Hastings, but the way made them waste more time than expected. Them crossed the Sierra Nevada Mountains late in the season. A heavy snowfall blocked way, trapping them in a frozen wilderness. Survivors of 45 from 89 arrived in California the following year.

After all this battles Mexico sold more than half of the country's land to the United States.The war made United State had the territories of Texas, California, Nevada and Utah in addition to pieces of New Mexico, Wyoming, Arizona and Colorado.
