This allowed students with disabilities to be put in publicly funded schools that met them and their individual needs based on evaluations. -

Congressional Investigation of 1972
This investigation was the congress trying to figure out all the areas that special education was being underserved. The results were astonishing, according to "educationonline.ku.edu" there were 2.5 million students receiving substandard education and 1.75 million weren't in school. In my opinion this was one of the biggest pushes that led to the IDEA Act in 1975. -
The Education for All Handicapped Children Act (PL94-142)
This law requires public schools that receive federal funds has to provide equal access to all students with disabilities. -

President General Ford signed the IDEA law into affect. -
Public Law 99-457
This law approved the help of disabled children from the time they were born instead of when they turned three. -

This gave families more say in their students IEP's. -

This law was set out to enhance the EHA.It would provide the payment of legal fees if the family successfully sued. -
Public Law 101-476
This law called for big changes to the PL 94-142. Brain injuries and autism were added as new categories, -
Students with Disabilities and Postsecondary School
This law forbid discrimination in schools based on the students disabilities. While postsecondary schools are not required to provide free public education, this law made sure that they offer academic adjustment and accessible housing. -
The Education for all Handicapped Children’s Act
President Clinton reauthorized IDEA which focused on providing all students with the same curriculum. -
The Assistive Technology Act
This law states that a school needs to provide assistive technology so they can participate more in education and daily activities. -
No Child Left Behind
This law promoted the accountability of the schools academic progress. Assessing the students on national standards. -
Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004
This increased the accountability and made all teachers involved having to be highly qualified. -
Every Student Succeeds Act (ESEA)
This reauthorized the ESEA act of 1965.
