    Germany, Italy and Japan signed a mutual defense treaty called the Tripartite Pact. United states enemies are officaly formed.

    Roosevelt is elected to a 3rd term as president( had never happened before or after). Won the election because the people trusted his leadership in WW2 if we got involved. There was very little difference, FDR and willkie, and FDR won with 55% of the vote.

    Roosevelts Lend-Lease Plan
    Britian was running short on war supplies and then FRD got around the neurtrality acts by "loaning" Great Britan the supplies they need. The US is taking sides with the lend-lease program, they support the Allies.

    Hitler breaks nonagression act and invades the Soviet Union. US begins to send lend-lease aid to the Soviet Union. US takes sides against the axis powers.

    FDR and Winston Churchill USS Augusta to discuss the outcome of the war. They came up with a joint declaration of war aims called the Atlantic Charter.. Those goals included freedom of the sea, collective security, self-determination. disarmament, economic cooperation. FDR was taking sides with Great Britian and was looking for an excuse to get involved.

    German subs sank U.S.S. Greer an American destroyer. FDR then issues a shoot on sight policy saying that if you see a German sub "shoot it on sight". The US is now acting aggressivly towards Germany and the Axis powers.

    Japan has a desire to expand and control all of East Asia. As a result the US stops trading oil to Japan. On Dec. 7, 1941 the Japanese led a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. It was the largest attack on America in history. Over 200 died and over 1000 injured. Congress declares war and isolationism is over.
