Month I: Mom

Month I: Baby

~ Week 3, 1st organ to develop is heart
~ Blood cells bring oxygen and nutrients -
Month II: Mom
~ She has to be careful of what she puts into her body.
~ She starts having cravings.
~ Hormones are released, and morning sickness starts occurring.
~ She starts to put on some weight. -
Month II: Baby
~ 6 weeks, eyes are open with no lids
~ 8 weeks, it's known as a fetus
~ The placenta becomes the life support.
~ The human yolk sac vanishes. -
Month III: Mom
~ First ultrasound scan
~ Mom can learn the sex of the baby.
~ First look at the baby
~ Starts to feel a connection to the baby -
Month III: Baby
~ 9 weeks, fetus' body begins to twitch
~ Nerves extend from spinal cord to leg muscles
~ heartbeats the quickest during this time period
~ The stepping reflex occurs during this time. -
Month IV: Mom
~ Starts to feel the baby moving around
~ Hears baby's heartbeat for the first time
~ She can feel the baby move during the ultrasound
~ The connection between mom and baby strengthens after hearing the heartbeat. -
Month IV: Baby
~ Fetus is no bigger than a fist.
~ Males start producing testosterone, while girls produce eggs.
~ Bones are hardening at this time.
~ They practice the grasping reflex. -
Month V: Mom
~ Starts to really feel the movements
~ More detailed ultrasound to tell if there is any abnormalities
~ Develops a more emotional connection with child
~ Has to start sleeping in different positions -
Month V: Baby
~ Movements are stronger
~ Some fetus' can blink and open eyes
~ Baby is 7 inches long
~ Starts to become aware of the outside world -
Month VI: Mom
~ More aware of her pregnancy
~ Starts feeling better
~ Gets energy back and is more active
~ Morning sickness passes -
Month VI: Baby
~ Possibility of fetus surviving outside of womb
~ Development of senses and organs
~ Receives first stimulation from outside world
~ Strong tastes and smells pass through amniotic fluid -
Month VII: Mom
~ Her voice travels through fluid, further bonding mom and baby
~ If tanning, light may pass through the womb to baby
~ Belly is prominent, and her legs are starting to ache
~ Baby is moving more and more everyday -
Month VII: Baby
~ Fetus evolves in total darkness
~ Eye color isn't determined; genes determine color
~ Baby begins to hear sounds
~ Eyelashes begin to form -
Month VIII: Mom
~ Heartbeat and blood pressure are affected by emotional state
~ Can pass stress onto baby
~ Can feel baby's movements everyday
~ Sleeping is more difficult now -
Month VIII: Baby
~ Stress affects heart due to passing through the placenta
~ Hiccups occur
~ Last organs to form are lungs
~ Depending on the tempo of music, depends on baby's stimulation -
Month IX: Mom
~ Feels uncomfortable
~ Feels anxious for the birth
~ Legs and lungs in pain struggling for oxygen
~ Waiting for contractions or break in water -
Month IX: Baby
~ Barely a difference between fetus and newborn
~ Longer fetus stays in womb, the healthier they are
~ Only 5% arrive on due date
~ Baby's lungs initiate birth once they are finished growing
