Path to Individualized and Personalized PBL

  • Gradpoint

Gradpoint by Pearson is a software that can be personalized to some extent for students.
  • Canvas

A new learning management system was made available to the district.
  • 1-to-1 Laptops for Students

A Dell tablet laptop was assigned to each student at Refugio HS.
  • First Trial of PBL

Teachers from each discipline attempted to have an integrated unit about the Industrial Revolution. Though many aspects of PBL were missing, a step towards the interdisciplinary nature of PBL was made.
  • Project-Based Learning Trainings Begin

Matt Zuchowicz from SBCEO came to Refugio to train the staff in PBL. These were an introduction to PBL only.
  • Period: to

    Rest of 2017-2018 School Year

Analyze current state of infrastructure and resources with a view to strategizing ways of building what we need (more time in the school day(?), more staff collaboration, technological proficiency with staff, PBL proficiency with staff, more independence as a school, etc.
  • Period: to

    Year of Culture

Building cultures of equity, student-centered environments (personalization, individualization), school identity, authenticity.
  • Staff Retreat - MS Teams & PBL

In order to use the MS Office platform for much of the personalized and individualized projects in the future, we need to become more familiar with it. We intend to look at MS Teams, because this is the new app that Silicon Valley workers are beginning to use in the workplace.
  • Period: to

    Skills and Competencies

Staff will move into chunking learning objectives and goals by skills/competencies. By doing this, it is hoped that staff can re-envision their current interdisciplinary units from this lens.
  • Period: to

    Year of Individualization and Personalization.

Using MS Office and a host of its apps for project development (i.e. Canvas, Teams, Sharepoint, etc.), teachers should begin to be able to use student competency data and student interest data to begin crafting individualized and personalized projects, as well as individualized learning plans.
