Obsessive Compulsive Disorder: Steps to a Better Life

  • Admitting the Problem

    Admitting the Problem
The first step/ milestone to solving any problem is admitting you have the problem. Once you have done this, you have begun your road to recovery.
  • Fight the Small Battles

    Fight the Small Battles
You won't be able to go in to this process thinking you will solve all of your solutions with one swift punch. Focus on winning the small battles. For example, instead of trying to resist your obsessions all the time, pick out one time in the day to resist it if you can.
  • Talk to People

    Talk to People
Go to a counseling session and talk to others about how you are feeling. It may seem degrading to yourself but it will help. And think that there is a reason that the other people are there with you.
  • Let Out Your Emotions

    Let Out Your Emotions
If you are having a bad day with your struggle, don't let all of that sadness and anger build up inside of you. It won't be good. Make the effort to let your emotions out. You will probably feel better afterwards.
  • Distract Yourself

    Distract Yourself
If there is any way to distract yourself from you problems, do it. Go hang out with friends, watch TV, do something different, NOT WHAT YOU DO TO RELIEVE YOUR OBSESSIONS. If you feel it coming on, immediately switch to doing something else to take your mind off of it.
  • Think About the Positives

    Think About the Positives
As hard as it can be sometimes, you need to focus on the positive aspects of your life. It will help give you the focus and energy to get through your day
  • Avoid Medicine If You Can

    Avoid Medicine If You Can
It is more beneficial for you to be able to take a journey like this with out the help of drugs if possible. The medicine is holding you back from being you. What I mean is the medicine is controlling/limiting an aspect of your body in some way, and are therefore relying on the medicine. Plus some drugs have addictive power. So refrain from using medicine if possible.
  • Look Out For Yourself

    Look Out For Yourself
I'm not saying that you shouldn't look out for other people, but it isn't being selfish if you are doing it for the betterment of yourself. Helping yourself can make you feel better, which can help with depression and anxiety you deal with.
  • Mentally Destroy the Things Upsetting You

Mentally Destroy the Things Upsetting You
Imagine in your head that the thing you are obsessing over is getting crushed under a hydraulic press. View this now crushed up material as worthless and don't let it affect you. This is a solution for the problems people have with compulsion.
  • Attack the Source

    Attack the Source
Now put all of your effort into attacking the source of your OCD. Do everything in your power to not let it affect you. Take the fight to the object. Put it on its heels and don't hold back. If you keep playing the defensive, your OCD will win and you will have to start the process over.
