Elie and his father took a four hour walk to the work camp. It was known as Auschwitz 3 or Buna. One of the popular factories of Buna was a brick factory. To this day it still stands as a memorial. After 8 months in Buna him and his father went to a camp called Buchenwald. It was almost 200 miles away. -

All prisoners were tested for the selection to go to the crematorium.If you weren't written down then you were fine, if you were written down you had a uncertain fate. -

Public Hangings Begin
Germans in the concentration camp know that the end is nye. They know that the american front is off to the west and the russian front is off to the east and it's only a matter of time before they arrive. In the meantime, the germans decide to start public hangings to put fear in the prisoners for better cooperation in this time of panic. -

About this time period Elie Wiesel was placed in the infirmary. He had an injured leg. Elie said it was nicer in the hospital. It had clean sheets, thicker soup, better bread, no work, no selections. This are the reasons why Elie liked the the infirmary. Until he found out that the selections were worse. There was no second chance. The doctor had to clear the bed for the next patient. Then there was a rumor that the camp was going to be liberated. -
Swedish bring food to Netherlands-Day 12-Brian
On January 27, 1945 Nazi occupients forbid food shipments to the Netherlands. Then on the 28th Sweden started sendeding food through the coast on navy ships. This whole event is called the Dutch Famine of 1944. -
Elie Wiesel's father passed away
On January 29th 1945, Elie woke up to see that his father is not there. He has been taken to the Crematorium. No prayers were said over his tomb. His last word had been Elie's name. -
Bischofsburg is captured by Soviet Forces
Toward the south of the German pocket, Bischofsburg falls to the Soviet forces. Forces of the 1st Belorussian Front encircle the city of Poznan, and the large German garrison, in Pomerania. Dresden, some 95 miles southeast of Berlin, is captured. -
The Death March Begins
All the prisoners arrive in Gleiwitz and are sorted into two directions. One to be killed, one to be sent on a train. After Elie is able to get his father on the train, they start their Journey towards the heart of Germany. 100 bone-thin prisoners travled through hell on their way and acted inhumane in cases of murder and greed. One man killed his own father over a crust of bread. After traveling through a winter snow storm, once 100 prisoners became 12 after arriving at Buchenwald. -
The Liberation of Buchenwald
After suffering the worst experience a child could ever experience, Elie finds freedom at last. However, returning from such shock of the violence and cruelty he witnessed, as well as the death of his own father, he never felt the same. He returns from the camp and sees himself a walking corpse. A lifeless soul drenched in dread and sorrow.
