    Nelson Mandela was born on July 18,1918. He was born in Umata. He was part of the royal family. He would later go on to fight for rights of black people in South Africa.(Mandela53).

    On August 29, 1924 Gandhi fasted for 21 days. The reason for his fasting was to protest against feuds in religion. The significance of this is that it proved things can be fought with peace instead of war no matter what it is.(Grun426).

The significance of this is that it was a big step in science and they pushed the boundaries on what they could do.     Winnie and Nelson Mandela got married on June 14, 1958. Nelson Mandela had to be taken out of jail so they could be married. Once Nelson got out of jail they were able to have the ceremony. They would go on to fight for freedom together.(Mandela60).

    On October 15, 1962 the hearing for the Rivonia trial was scheduled and on that day people started to retaliate. Free Mandela protests were happening while the hearing was going on. The protests got out of control and the government had to try and shut them down. Mandela was eventually convicted and had to spend the next 27 years in jail and would show how determined Mandela was to be liberated .(Mandela282).

    In 1972 Apollo 16 astronauts spend 71 hours on the top of the moon. These two astronauts were John Watts and Charles Duke. This was an important accomplishment in scientific discoveries.(Grun571).

    People were outraged that Nelson Mandela was in jail. They started to protest and then it finally became too much. They demanded that Mandela and other political prisoners to be released. This showed how badly people needed Mandela and the others for their freedom.(Mandela113).

    Nelson Mandela was in jail for 27 years and switched over to other prisons. On February 11, 1990 he was finally released. This was important because it would help them get closer to freedom.(Mandela508).

    The day of Mandela's release he later made a speech. He thanked everyone who helped throughout his time in prison. He also explained how he would continue to fight for freedom and that the fight was not over.(Mandela509).

    Nelson Mandela suffered from a lung infection in 2011. He was constantly in and out of the hospital for treatment. On December 5, 2013 in South Africa the world lost a hero and leader.(biography.com)
