Birth of Muhammad
In the year 570, Muhammad was born in the town of Mecca. Muhammad was the first and only son of Abd Allah bin Al-Muttalib and Amina bint Wahb. -

Muhammad Becomes an Orphan
When Muhammad was about five or six years old, his mother took him to Yathrib in order to stay with relatives and visit his father's grave. On the trip back home, his mother got sick and died. After his mother was buried in the city of Abwa, Muhammad returned to Mecca in order to live with his grandfather, Abdul Al-Muttalib. -

Muhammad Receives First Revelation
Muhammad began taking long trips outside town to a mountain cave where he meditated and fasted. One time, Muhammad was visited by a very powerful presence and this presence instructed Muhammad to speak words of beauty and force. Eventually these words were attributed to God. -

He began giving the messages he was recieving to the restof the tribe. The things he told them later was written down and it is now the quar'an. -

Muhammad Moves into Care of Uncle
In 578, Muhammad was about eight years old and his grandfather passed away. Muhammad moved into the care of his uncle, Abu Talib. Muhammad grew up in Abu Talib's home and remained under his protection for many years. -
Muhammad's Teenage Years
As a young boy, Muhammad worked as a shepherd. As a teenager, he traveled with his uncle to trade centers. He picked up the nickname "El Amin" from the merchants who recognized him. -
Muhammad Gets Married
Muhammad's distant cousin, Khadija, eventually proposed to him in about 595. Muhammad was 25 while she was 40. The two had six children and four duaghters.
