    Indian removal act
    the Indian removal act authorized the president to grant lands west of the Mississippi in exchange for Indian lands. This was basically the reason indians were being removed from their homelands
  • Trail of Tears

    Trail of Tears
    Congress had passed the Indian removal act which removed thousands of indians from their homelands. They were relocated to an area of land known as Indian territory which is now Oklahoma. This event is referred to as the Trail of Tears
  • The Civil War

    The Civil War
    The Civil War was a civil 4 year war between the Confederacy and the Union. The Civil War was fought over the moral issue of slavery.
  • The Reconstruction Treaties

    The Reconstruction Treaties
    After the Civil War all five tribes entered Treaties with the United States which addressed the status and right of freed slaves. These treaties basically summarized the peace and friendship in the United States.
  • The Dawes Act

    The Dawes Act
    The Dawes Act authorized the president to break up reservation land into small allotments. Native Americans registered on a tribal roll and were then granted allotments of reservation land.

    The Oklahoma Land Rush of 1889 was the first unassigned lands of former Indian territory. Men and woman both rushed to purchase lots or claim homesteads
  • Indian Reorganization Act

    Indian Reorganization Act
    This act was created to decrease the federal control there towards Natives. With this act their goal was to increase indian self-government and responsibility
