    St. Peter's Basilica

    St. Peter's Basilica
    Michelangelo was one of the architects who contributed to the blue prints of the St. Peter's Basilica. There were many architects involved such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Donato Bramante, and Carlo Maderno. The churches construction began in April 18th 1506 and was completed 120 years later on the 18th of November 1626.

    The exact day and month is not known but the year is. Michelangelo was the artist who painted the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel which is a catholic church like St Peter's Basilica. His creation started in 1508 and ended in 1512. The story goes that Michelangelo hated painting it and he didn't like how it came out.

    High Renaissancce

    High Renaissancce
    Although this type of art began in the 1490s, Michelangelo made it popular when he started incorporating it into his work. One of his most famous pieces is the Creation of Adam which began in 1511 and completed in 1512. High renaissance only lasted about 30 years but many artist included it in their work. For example the Mona Lisa is and example of the High Renaissance.

    San Pietro in Montorio
    San Pietro in Montorio was a chruch built in the 9th century dedicated to Saint Peter. Supposedly it is also the site of his crucifixion. But in the courtyard of San Pietro in Montorio there is the Tempietto, a small temple. This is a masterpiece of High Renaissance. Michelangelo supplied figure drawings for Sebastiano del Piombo that were incorporated into the Flagellation, a painting in San Pietro in Montorio. The Flagellation was started in 1516 and was completed in 1524.

    Renaissancce to Gothic Architecture
    We can say the renaissance is the foundation for most types of architecture. Gothic architecture derived from Renaissance and is very popular around the world especially England. One very popular piece if architecture is the Westminster Abbey. The Westminster Abbey was opened in 1090 but still was not 100% completed. Around 1519 marked when the Abbey was 95% complete.

    Westminister Abbey
    The Westminster Abbey is an example of Gothic Architecture which derived from the renaissance. It is a catholic church built in London. Most of the Church was completed in 1519 but some finishing touches and extra detail was all completed in 1725.

    Queen Elizabet l of England
    Queen Elizabeth was crowned queen on January 15, 1559. Elizabeth Tudor became queen when she was 25 years of age. Other woman leaders failed to bring that country back to power because they all married and counted on the men for support, but Elizabeth had different ideas. She rued alone for about half a century and managed to bring England to peace and stability. She later died in 1603 and was buried in the Westminster Abbey which is a Gothic building.
