Bear Flag Revolt

This event was important because California was able to gain it's independence from Mexico without firing a shot and California was added to the United States 3 weeks later.

Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo

Feb 2, 1848

This event was important because it ended the Mexican American war and Mexico lost California and New Mexico. Also Mexicans were given the choice to remain in conquered parts of Mexico and become American citizens.
