ME(dia), MYSELF, AND I

  • Coloring Materials and Paper

    Coloring Materials and Paper
(1 yr. old) My mother said that at this point of my life, they’ve already provided me with coloring materials and papers and they told me that the thing I draw the most is the Sun, because it’s yellow, my favorite color. For me, this is where I started to consciously expose myself (with the help of my parents) in media, and there’s totally no regrets!
  • Television

    Television
(2 years old) At this point of my life, I’ve been already exposed to Television. My favorite cartoon character then was Popeye, even though I still didn’t understand a thing that time, I enjoyed watching Popeye splash and eat his spinach before growing muscles and saving the day! This media primarily served as my entertainment then. Popeye has been and will always be part of my childhood!
  • Children's Books

    Children's Books
(3 years old) At this point of my life my parents (my first teachers) introduced me to children books, those books that gave me knowledge about letters, words, numbers, pronunciation, basically the well-known Reading, Writing, and Arithmetic. I’m glad that my parents gave me a preparatory knowledge before school. Because of this preparatory knowledge my first teachers provided me, I aced in my very first year in school!
  • Ballpen

    Ballpen
(4 years old) When I was still in a preparatory school, my mother insisted me to start practicing myself in using pen, instead of a pencil. At first, I found it hard and uncomfortable because back then, for me, the texture of a pencil is far different compared to that of a pen. But I didn't stop, I practiced and practiced until I find no trouble anymore in writing either with a pencil or a pen. I'm grateful for what my mother have done because I was exposed early to a pen, which I consider good!
  • Computer

    Computer
(5 years old) This is the point when I learned the basics on how to use a computer. I remember messing around with MS Paint back then. But my main objective everytime I open the computer is to open Microsoft Encarta. Encarta was my “offline Internet” back then when we still didn’t have access to the legitimate Internet. I loved its contents (the colors and pictures were a big plus) especially the encyclopedia of animals, I loved reading and discovering new facts about our mesmerizing world)
  • Newspaper

    Newspaper
(6 years old) Back then, after my father read a bunch of newspaper, he’ll take it to our Miso Factory and turn it to wrappers. And everytime he reads newspapers, I will just sit beside him and wait patiently for him to finish the comics section because I loved reading the comics section especially the one made by Philippine Star. Aside from this, I also got my eyes on the jokes section and the word puzzles. This was one of my entertainment back then when Internet was not in my vocabulary yet.
  • Online Games

    Online Games
(7 years old) My brother introduced me to online games, such as WoW and Krazy Kart. It was real crazy! I enjoyed playing with my brother! These online games also widened my range of friends, from local to foreign. Until now I play online games such as Team Fortress 2 and Counter Strike: Global Offensive and I still continue to befriend other gamers out there. It’s fun to know that I’m somehow connected to people sharing common interests with me, even they’re physically far away from me.
  • Gameboy

    Gameboy
(7 years old) For my 7th birthday, my father gifted me a Gameboy, where I could play my favorite games such as Tekken and Contra. My eyes widened as I opened the gift and saw a Gameboy, because I wasn’t expecting that at all! I was overjoyed because of that surprise.
  • Personal Printer

    Personal Printer
(8 years old) After years of printing my homeworks in computer shops, we finally owned our own printer! The availability of printer for personal use made my life truly easier. Instead of asking my friends to print me documents, or leaving the house late at night just to print documents, I could use our printer, anytime of the day, and print my needed documents! This technology truly made my life more convenient. It even enabled me to return the favor for those friends who I've asked in the past.
  • (not smart) Cellphone

    (not smart) Cellphone
(9 years old) At this point of my life I was exposed to my OWN cellphone. I really wanted a phone back then, not the smartphones where I could play, but rather my wish was simple, just to be able to contact, through text and call, my family and friends, so my father gave me a phone as birthday gift. It was a yellow Torque E35, which could easily fit in my little palms back then. I liked that phone very much until I dropped it and the keypad scattered on the floor.
  • Radio

    Radio
(7 years old) Using my Torque E35, I discovered the Radio. I was surprised regarding the amount of radio stations exist, just in our country! After school hours, I always get excited because as I reach home, I would plug in my earphones and listen to 101.01 FM, which would play Parokya ni Edgar’s song entitled Mang Jose around 6:30 in the evening. This daily routine gives me relaxation before I start doing my schoolworks.
  • Portable Play Station

    Portable Play Station
My aunt in Australia returned to the Philippines for Christmas. My aunt never failed to give me awesome gifts, so I was eager to know what lies inside the box my aunt gave me on Christmas Eve. I felt a little anxious while tearing the wrappings but all those anxiety flew away of the country as I saw the gift, it was a PSP! I was again overjoyed and amazed by how my aunt never fails to make me happy. Through the PSP, I could play games, watch videos, capture moments, and more, and it’s portable.
  • Facebook

    Facebook
(10 years old) According to my Facebook Archives, I used their services by 2011, when I was in Grade 5. I remember why I decided to join Facebook, it is because my crush has one and I also wanted one so that I could talk to her, even just in the virtual world, because I can’t talk to her personally in school. What a petty little kid I am back then. This started my social media life, from discovering Facebook, I discovered Twitter, Instagram, and so on. Still, no regrets!
  • Typewriter

    Typewriter
(12 years old) This is the year when I first touched an actual typewriter! We were having a section practice at my classmate’s (specifically Hozeo Mercado) house and during our lunchbreak, Hozeo let us in his father’s office and I, as a clumsy child, fooled with the typewriter that was inside the office. I was amazed by the technology created by people in the past before computers and keyboards in which you could press backspace were invented.
  • Gmail

    Gmail
(13 years old) To join their services, Twitter asked me for my email address, but I didn’t have one. So I registered one in Google Mails, also known as Gmail. Up to now, I’m still using that email for various activities, such as schoolworks, submissions of video projects, transfer of files to formal aspects, and many more. I find this Gmail very useful for me.
  • Smartphone

    Smartphone
(13 years old) 4 years ago, I received a not so smartphone as a birthday gift, but now, things were changed! I finally received a smartphone. It was a Samsung MiniGalaxy Duos, a limited offer. I was overjoyed for I finally owned a phone which could help me everyday in a lot of ways, such as for contacting friends, taking notes, playing games, accessing social media, watching videos, reading the news, and many more! I am still amazed by the technologies brought out to us by our fellow humans.
  • Edmodo

    Edmodo
(14 years old) A student teacher in English required us to register to Edmodo. At first, we were bewildered by the fact that despite going to school everyday, we would still use an online class. But as time pass by, as activities, homeworks, and quizzes are done through the online class, we realized how efficient these online classes are. I’m thankful for that student teacher for introducing us to an online class, Edmodo, which our current Medialit teacher, Mr. Opiana, also requires us to use.
  • Smart(er)Phone

    Smart(er)Phone
(16 years old) I've received yet another smart phone! It was a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4. I loved the specs of this unit, such as its hardware, display, camera, dimensions, and many more. But most especially the reason why I entitled this segment "Smart(er)Phone" is its fingerprint recognition! As you could see on the photo attached to this segment, an arrow is pointing to the area where you can put your finger and if you're the owner, the phone will be unlocked! I'm mesmerized by its high-technology.
