  • First digital wrist watch invented

    First digital wrist watch invented
    The first Light Emitting Diode (LED) wrist watch was released in 1970, this completely changed the way people told time as until then it was only analog faced watches with hour and minute hands. By the mid 1970's, digital wrist watches were selling for under $20 and were the standard.
  • Floppy disks become commercially availible

    Floppy disks become commercially availible
    The first disks were 8" in diameter and were named "type 1 diskette" by IBM but the term "floppy disk" was used by the press and caught on. This ability to move data so easily with external hard drive was unbelievable at the time
  • First truly mobile cell phone released

    First truly mobile cell phone released
    "DynaTAC" prototype by Motorola engineer Martin Cooper. This was known as the "brick phone". The first call on it was made to Joel Engel, Cooper's top competitor at AT&T.
  • Apple 1 released

    Apple 1 released
    The original Apple 1 personal computer, at the time called a "microcomputer" was released released the same year as the company was founded. All 200 of the computers were hand-built by Steve Wozniak and sold for $666.66.
  • Sony releases the "Walkman"

    Sony releases the "Walkman"
    Sony releases the first portable music system, the "TPS-L2 Walkman ". It came with lightweight headphones, played cassette tapes and was capable of "hi-fi" stereo sound.
